Tan Seng Kok

Tan Seng Kok (B.1971) graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1993 and received his Master of Fine Arts from Birmingham City University, UK (BIAD) in 2012. To date, he has held four solo exhibitions locally and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Singapore, Taiwan, Greece, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Drawing inspiration from the familiar form of a car’s rearview mirror, the works invite viewers to reflect on both personal and collective histories.

By incorporating historical maps of Singapore, the series considers how maps not only document geography but also embody the values, perspectives, and priorities of the societies that produced them. Looking back at these maps becomes an opportunity to question what we choose to preserve, remember, and value in the present.
